The History of Messe Offenbach

Since its founding, Messe Offenbach has stood for innovation, tradition, and personal encounters. With a long history as a venue for national and international trade fairs, it has continuously evolved and remains an important meeting point for industries, companies, and trade visitors to this day.   • 1949

    First Exhibition

    The first event took place in the Offenbach Theater and was dedicated to post-war reconstruction (Marshall Plan).

    This marked the starting point for the development of its own exhibition center.

  • Founding & First Trade Fair

    The exhibition company was officially founded in March. As early as January, the first leather goods fair took place with 155 exhibitors.

    This established Offenbach early on as an industry meeting point for the leather goods industry.

    Expansion of the Exhibition Halls

    Several halls were built and expanded to accommodate the rapid growth.

    The trade fair developed into a significant location parallel to the economic miracle.

    Due to increasing competitive pressure (e.g., cheap imports), the trade fair opened up more to international markets and formats.

    The halls were extensively modernized, and the organization was converted into a GmbH.
